The Kea (native alpine parrot) is a handcrafted low-whistle in the key of F major, three semi-tones higher than my Low-D whistle. You can see a demo of the Kea

These whistles are tough, made from PVC. They feature:
A small bell which helps improve the volume of the lower notes of each octave compared to the higher ones.
They also have a curved lip against which the air is directed like a classical flute, rather than a straight one, giving a distinctivemellow and slightly 'breathy' tone.
Each whistle is carefully hand tuned to concert pitch A=440Hz, within the limits of variable air temperature and how hard you blow.
Range of at least two octaves, F4 to E6.
Besides the key of F, the whistle is easily played in Dorian mode (the scale starting on G), in Bb major and G minor by half-holing the E, C major and and A minor (see chart for the B) and of course Dm.  Sorry the parrot is not included ;-)
