Description
hyalyn porcelain company (Hickory NC - late 1940's-early 1970's) made numerous high-quality mid-century style pieces.
This ribbed pedestal vase with a 4-footed matte black base has a tan sandy-textured glaze on the lower part with the top side of the wide top rim glazed in a brilliant burnt orange. The shape is very reminiscent of Oriental design which was popular mid-century. It is a sturdy piece & would certainly hold flowers or would look great as a stand-alone shelf piece. It is 9 inches tall & the top rim is almost 7-3/4 inches in diameter, with the base about 4 inches in diameter.
The matte black bottom is unmarked, but I have seen this style done by hyalyn with a paper label on the top rim.
A previous owner has applied protective pads to the feet, but otherwise this vase is in very good original vintage condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing.
