    Description

This item is a Folk Art Pottery Face Jug by the master of North Carolina folk art pottery, Burlon Craig. Craig helped revive the Catawba pottery tradition, developed by German immigrants in the eighteenth century, which used wood-fired kilns and alkaline glazes made from local materials (“Burlon Craig,” William Oppenheimer, Folk Art Messenger, 2002). This jug stands roughly 12 inches tall and is 9 inches wide. It is stamped "Vale, North Carolina" where Craig worked and is honored there with an annual festival called Burlon Craig Day. Condition is "Used" with minor firing irregularities. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
